I like reading books about war dogs, shipwrecks, and lady aviators.
I was having dinner with my boss's family when his 11 year old daughter said, "I know of a series I think you'll really enjoy!" then ran to her room to bring me three "Everyday Angel" books. It was about the most heart-meltingly adorable thing that's ever happened to me. And I think it was good for me to read it. Too often the farther we get away from our childhoods, the more we romanticize them. And 11 year olds have very complex emotional lives that we shouldn't ignore just because they also have recess.
